DIY Retro Painted Spoon Dolls
Happy Friday everyone! I had quite a crazy schedule yesterday and did not have time to post my latest diy tutorial. So I am going to share it with you all today. I have had a little obsession with spoon dolls lately. They are just so darned cute! I know it is a retro craft, but I have been so taken with the recent spoon dolls I have seen floating around Pinterest. You can see my favorites Here, Here, and Here. I have been inspired to make some for a while now, and finally found a set of inexpensive wooden spoons at wallyworld that I liked, so I made a little spoon doll of me and Daryl. They look just like us don’t they 😉
Here’s What You Need:
Wooden Spoons
Craft Paint
Spray Shellac if using them as spoons still
Wire and Hot Glue if hanging on a wall
Instructions:
Even though I love the ones that incorporate fabric and paper for clothing, I wanted to paint the clothing on mine. The first thing you need to do is decide how you want your doll to look. Lightly sketch out the features of the face and the clothing with a pencil on the spoon. Now paint your spoon. I did the head first, then when the heads were dry, I painted the bodies, and then went back and put a little extra detail in. If you want to use your spoon dolls as spoons for food, you will need to spray them with a food grade spray shellac like bullseye brand that you can get at home depot. I wanted to hang mine on the wall, so I needed to make a hanger for the back. Cut a small piece of wire around an inch long. bring the end together making a loop with the wire. Then put a dab of hot glue on the back of the spoon head. Lay your wire ends into the hot glue dab, leaving the loop unglued. When the glue dries, pull the loop towards you a tiny bit. Your spoon is ready to hang.
I LOVE these little spoon dolls! They were so fun and easy to make! It was a great weeknight craft too. This cute little couple is going to hang in my kitchen above the sink. I only made two, but I would love to make the whole family one day. They would be so fun collage on a wall! I hope some of you will give this one a try, you’ll have a blast! I will be back next week with more DIY fun! Get ready for a full week of Halloween! Until then…
Happy Crafting!
