Hey everybody! Today I have something very special to share with you!Β Β I am participating in the 2014 Dog Fence DIY Hackaton from DogFenceDIY.com. My mom has had this old side table that we have been wanting to turn into a dog bed for Sadie for over a year now, so I thought this would be a perfect project! It is so easy to find side tables at the thrift store for cheap, and you can make a bed out of as plain or fancy as you like. This project is really fun and easy! It is a great weekend project!

This bed was so simple to make. The first thing you need to do is paint your side table. Prime it first, then paint it how you like it. While your table is drying paint your wooden finials. Once the paint is nice and dry, apply a sealer if you like.

Now you are ready to add the finials. Turn your table upside down. Mark the center of the bottom of each foot. Measure your screws on your finials and find a drill bit a hair smaller. Drill a hole into each table leg where marked at the bottom. Screw your finials into the hole in the bottom of each leg.

*If your finials do not have screws, then you could glue them onto the bottom of your legs with some wood glue or construction adhesive

To make the banner, take your pre-made chalkboard pennants and string them onto your ribbon. I added two rub on transfers to each side of my banner. Then write the name of your pet in chalk. Now tie on your banner onto your table legs at the top just below the finials.

I used a pillow with a vintage pillowcase for the bedding in the table bed. You could always make a custom pillow to fit . I prefer to use regular bed pillows in my pet beds. They are cheap to replace and you can easily was the pillowcases when they get dirty. Smoosh your pillow into the bottom of the table and you are done.

8-DSC_0076Don’t you just love it! Sadie is liking it already! The thing that I love the most about it is that it looks like a really expensive custom pet bed, but the whole thing cost less than thirty dollars. It looks fantastic in my mom’s sunroom, and I know it is going to be a favorite snuggle spot for all the dogs! So, next time you see that shabby side table at your local thrift, snag it and upcycle it into something spectacular for your favorite pooch or kitty! I’ll be back soon with another lovely project. Until then…

Happy Crafting!
