A Home Tour Of My Happy Place (aka my home studio)
It’s been a while since I have added any new posts to my home tour to share with you all. Quite frankly, my house had been a disaster for months before we did an early spring cleaning back in January. It feels so nice to have a clean and somewhat organized home again. I have a new love for my little house! It’s always going to be a work in progress, but I enjoy the changes. It dawned on me that I had never shared my little home studio/ craft room with you all before, and it is by far my favorite space in my home! So, whenΒ I was recently asked by Porch.com to share a story on a favorite space in my house, my happy place, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to introduce you to my little work space. Porch is a great website dedicated to your home space. It is a really cool network that can help you connect with professionals to help you create your space, manage your home, and get lots of inspiration! All for free! You should definitely check them out, there’s all kinds of awesome decorating articles!
My hubby and I bought our first home almost five years ago. It is just the two of us, so our three bedroom 1100 square foot home has plenty of space for us! We have an office that doubles as a music room and of course our master bedroom. Our third bedroom was originally a guest room, but we really never have any guests since our family is all local. Since I can remember I have crafted out of closets and on the kitchen table. So one day, I claimed the guest room as my own. Our third bedroom has become my home studio.
I think my favorite place in my studio is my mid mod dresser area. The dresser was a Craigslist find we spruced up with some paint and new knobs. It holds fabrics, scraps, leather, and felts. On top of the dresser sits my crafty book collection as well as a stack of a few of my favorite vintage children’s books. My Olivia the Pig stands cheerily on the corner and the ceramic whale planter holds heart-shaped confetti collected from the Michael Buble concert my mom and I went to last year for my birthday.
My table area is stuffed all around with vintage chotskies and tins, and fun little containers holding some of my most used supplies. My planters have become hosts for paintbrushes or business cards, or stationary. I keep my pens and tools in vintage drinking glasses nestled in an old metal drink carrier. The wall at my craft table houses my favorite prints and decor.
My husband made my big red shelves for my room. They hold some of my most prized items! There are containers of vintage feedsack scraps and old hankies. My vintage tin doll house that makes me smile every day! I found it at a flea market in DC while on vacation with my sister and mother. I had always wanted one since my mother told me about her tin doll house that she had when she was a child. It serves as a kind of reminder of my two favorite gals, my mom and my sister Hannah. Hannah is like the best person to have around because she is super lucky! I always find the best things when she’s thrifting with me! My bottom shelf serves as a home to all my old linens. I have tons of vintage cutter tablecloths, bed sheets, towels, pillowcases, fabrics. The patterns and colors are so amazing. They are definitely my favorite medium to work with! Seeing these ever-changing fabrics every day inspires me to create.
The other side of my room is home to my shabby desk. Above the desk hangs a vintage paint by number that Hannah found me at the flea market for a buck( told you she was lucky.) My wall shelf holds my favorite stuffed animals, most of which were my favorites when I was a child. Every once in a while I have to take one down and give it a squeeze.
To end the tour of my room I leave you with my little Roux. This photo hangs on the wall next to the desk. It is directly across from my door and is the first thing I see when I walk around the corner to my room. My little angel kitty watches over me and the room we spent every day together in. Apparently it was his favorite room too. So, there you have it. My studio, my craft room, my creative sanctuary.Β It is not only a place where I work, but a place in my home that I absolutely love to be in. It has transformed little by little over the last five years. Always changing, adjusting to my growing collections of supplies. My closets and shelves are a hodgepodge of organized chaos, my walls filled with little things that make me smile. It is bright, sunny, cheery, splashing with colors and textures and patterns. This room is undoubtedly my happy place!

Ashlee,
What a sweet and beautiful post. Some of my favorite memories has been crafting with you, from the time you were a young child to the valentine boxes you let me help with a few days ago. Your space speaks eloquently of your creativity and the fact you create beauty with whatever you touch.
Mom

Such a cheerful creating space! We have such similar taste..I see some of the very same things I have but I can only dream about one day having my own room.
