Vintage Recipe Reviews- Cream Pie’s
Hi guys! I have another vintage recipe to share with you all today. Last month I told you all about the vintage Better Homes and Garden’s cookbook that I had picked up at an antique market recently. I have been thoroughly enjoying pouring through it! We have been getting lots of berries lately, strawberries and blueberries. I wanted to make a pie, and I have actually never made any custard pies before, so I decided to try the cream pie recipe.
Here’s the original recipe:
I followed the recipe at first using the double boiler method, but then my bowl was just not getting the liquid warm enough so I put the mix in a saucepan on medium heat and it thickened up nicely. I found this recipe really easy to make. I made my first recipe following the strawberry cream pie recipe. I had two pie shells, so I decided to make a blueberry pie too. The changes I made for the blueberry pie were that I added a layer of banana slices to the bottom of the pie shell then poured in the custard filling, then I added blueberries to the top with a little sprinkle of sugar.
Both of the pies I made were so delicious! They did not last long, and my hubby really loved them too! This is definitely going to be a go to easy desert recipe for me next time I need something special in a jiffy! I love how you can easily change it up using what fruit you have on hand. It’s simple and tasty, everything I love in a dessert recipe! I do hope you all will give it a try sometime!
It looks really yummy. I have a bunch of vintage cookbooks but I have never made any of the recipes in them. I think I might have to start.
Some of them look better than others😆 Everything I have made so far has been good. Can’t really go wrong with desserts
