Vintage Crafts- Velvet Ribbon Headband
Hi guys! Today I am going to share a little vintage accessory with you guys! Today’s vintage headband comes from a summer 1954 issue of McCalls Needlework and Craft Magazine. This sweet headband was from the series “just for fun” which were easy crafts to make. There were usually a few in each issue, and they were in small boxes at the bottom of the mags framed in a bright color.
Here is the Original:
This easy craft consisted on stitching some sequins and pearls to ribbon and using the ribbon for a headband or stitching a clasp to it and making a bracelet. I loved this idea and bought some 7/8″ wide aqua velvet ribbon. Instead of adding sequins I decided to embroider on my ribbon. I used a crazy daisy stitch and accented the daisies with red french knot centers. To make it easier to embroider I used a small embroidery hoop and tightened my ribbon in it so it was taut. I stitched a bit of elastic to the ends of the ribbon for the headband to form a loop and make it stretch nice on my head.
I just love this little set! The ribbon headband is really easy to make and to wear, and the bracelet is fun too! I love the texture of the embroidery on the ribbon and the softness of the velvet. This was quite a bit of stitching, but it only took me about an hour or so to stitch both up. I hope you all will give it a go sometime. I’ll be back soon with more vintage craftiness. Until then…
Happy Crafting!
