Vintage Kids Book Decoupaged House Shelves

DSC_7088 DSC_7098 DSC_7106 DSC_7109 DSC_7114Hi guys! I hope you all are having a great week! A couple of weeks ago I found these fantastic house shaped unfinished wood shelves at Michaels. I snagged them up as I just had to have them to do something with. After a lot of ideas, I decided to decoupage them with some of my old children’s early reader book pages. The illustrations are to die for and with a little paint and scrapbook paper accents they are just the perfect addition to my craft room!

Here’s What You Need:

*Wood House Shaped Shelves (Michaels)

*Vintage Early Reader Books or Illustrations of your choice

*Scrapbook Paper

*Paint

*Paint Brushes

*Mod Podge Matte

*Ruler

*Pencil

*Scissors

Instructions:

DSC_6944The first thing you need to do is decide which illustrations and paints you will use. Paint the areas of the selves where you will not be decoupaging. For my shelves I painted the outsides of my largest and smallest and the inside of my medium shelf. I also striped the fronts of each shelf. Take your ruler and measure the areas of your shelves that you will decoupage. Then draw in those measurements on your papers. So, for my sides I measured the width and height and then cut out my illustrations to be about an eighth of an inch smaller.

DSC_6945For the roof, I cut one long piece and creased it in the pitch to fit. And the bottoms were cut to be one piece too, and a little smaller than the shelf depth.

DSC_6946Once you have all your pieces cut you are ready to decoupage. Paint a layer of medium on the shelf where you want your paper to go, then paint a layer on the backside of your paper. Then smooth the paper onto the shelf and smooth out any bubbles. Apply your illustrations to the sides. Then add the roof piece, and then the bottom piece.

DSC_7091 DSC_7089 DSC_7095 DSC_7092 DSC_7115I absolutely love how my little shelves turned out! I almost don’t want to put anything on them, they are so cute just as is, you know! I can’t wait to hang them up! I hope I have inspired you all to make a set of shelves for your favorite space! So go grab you some shelves and some old story books and get to crafting your own little masterpieces! It’s a blast! I had so much fun just picking out which pages I was going to use. One of my favorite projects I’ve worked on in a while. I’ll be back next week with more DIY fun! Until then…

Happy Crafting!
